ENVIRONMENT (traffic)
1. How many vehicle movements a day will there be?
Once the plant is operational, there will be an average of around 40 -50 truck movements per day.
2. Will the movements be 7 days a week?
The plant will receive fuel deliveries 7 days a week.
3. How big will the trucks be? How many tonnes of wood will they carry?
When fuel deliveries commence standard-size HGVs will be used, which will bring around 20-22 tonnes per load to the plant.
4. Will access and egress be an issue?
GPL has discussed transport issues with the appropriate transport and highways authorities who believe GPTVL’s proposals to be satisfactory and appropriate. Historically this access route has carried significantly higher volumes of freight than GPTVL is now proposing.
5. Will these trucks be travelling along New Road and past residential areas towards the site? Is that something you can control/prevent?
All fuel will be delivered from the Portrack interchange to the site.
6. At what times of the day will the trucks be travelling on these roads? Can you avoid rush hours?
Although the plant will operate 24/7, following consultation with the Highways Agency, GPTVL has agreed to not receive deliveries during peak traffic flows.
7. What if there’s an accident? Whose responsibility will it be to clear up the wood?
The wood will be delivered in covered wagons. GPTVL will be using an experienced wood supplier who already transports wood in similar form to that required by GPTVL and has appropriate arrangements to deal with and mitigate any problems prior to delivery.
8. Why not bring the wood in by rail or ship? Did you think about that at all?
At present the market for recycled wood is not sufficiently mature for rail or ships to be viable options. In addition, the location of recycled wood processing facilities does not currently support the use of rail or water. However GPL has selected the site to enable use of rail or water for transport in the future if the opportunities arise.
