Biomass
From the range of biomass fuel sources, Gaia Power has selected recycled wood as its primary resource. This has historically been a problem for the UK, but recently introduced landfill restrictions now enable economic release of large volumes of feedstock estimated at 10.58 million tonnes per annum
Currently only a very small proportion of this is used by the power industry. Gaia Power's plants will substantially increase the use of this source as fuel to produce electricity, thus reducing the need to landfill and also reducing greenhouse gas emissions, so ensuring a win-win position
Gaia Power will be using wood that has already been harvested for alternative primary uses. Its fuel demand will not force displacement of food crops or require the change of use of existing forests
The fuel will be delivered to the plants in a dry chipped form to ease handling and reduce the transportation requirements
